Labour dazed and confused over car park consultation

Now we’ve seen the wording of the petition, we can clear up this parking charge confusion that’s got everyone all worked up and the Labour group so confused.

Cheshire West & Chester did carry out a parking consultation, however to clarify, this was never about charging for parking in Northwich. What is was actually about was enforcement of penalties for illegal parking across the borough e.g. parking on double yellow lines, like at the back of Baron’s Quay. It means our enforcement officers can issue penalty charge notices (tickets) instead of having to rely on the police to issue them.

The consultation was very wide-ranging and included lots of local agencies and the council received a lot of feedback at the time. The consultation took place in August 2009 and contrary to Clr Dolan's comments, DID report back and the guidance was published in March 2010. The results of this are available on the council website – www.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk – for those who wish to allay their fears once and for all.

This is the only consultation that has been carried out in relation to parking since the foundation of Cheshire West & Chester. The council has always been committed to protecting free parking in Northwich, and also at looking of ways to reduce parking charges where they do exist in the borough.

We are pleased Labour group member Brian Jamieson clarified their position, confirming they didn’t tell the people of Northwich that Cheshire West & Chester were planning on introducing parking charges.

In terms of the petition as a response to the consultation, we would like to thank the people of Northwich who have been passionate enough about our town to sign it and to once again assure them that it never was, nor will be our intention to introduce charges here.

Rubbish!

Cheshire West and Chester Conservatives promise to introduce weekly collection of decomposable waste.  "How much will this cost us?" The scheme will save us £1.5m due to the harmonisation of collection across the borough.  Not only will this be cheaper, we will increase re-cycling.  For reasons unknown to us, Labour and the Liberal Democrats oppose this move!
